I received a private message which I am uncomfortable to share here.
It included a question about this.
The point behind the comparison, while probably inappropriate as to
its potential effects, was that read-only file permissions are a
general safety device for programs like 'cp' or 'rsync' that work with
files of all kinds. The mechanical switch in Goldsboro was located
late in the arming sequence; field operators used other parts,
designed for that purpose, to arm or disarm the weapon. It seems to me
that Gnatmake should offer a more sophisticated method than file
system permissions when working with its own files.
In any event, the point here is moot because I intend to implement
what policy demands. Thank you!
Kind regards
Felix Lechner
