Just to be clear, we are attempting to clarify the situation regarding
the addition of the *.asc* corresponding to the .orig.tar.gz (ie. the
second half of my sentence) not whether DAK rejects "uselessly"
including the .orig.tar.gz again.

In other words, my "AIUI" should be replaced with something much
stronger; I've done many "useless" sourceful uploads successfully, but
I've never attempted to add an .sig…
