In general I would share your principle of writing code in a
backwards-compatible manner.
However, I believe this case differs from the norm as sadt(1) is a
Debian tool that is within our locus of control, so I would very much
prefer that src:devscripts is fixed instead of preventing Lintian
ceasing to warn about a deprecated option. Debian has, how can I
put it, enough legacy code as it is.
