Indeed, that's convincing enough and I have not heard anything from
doko... :)
However, instead of removing it I've marked the tag as
"experimental" and with a "pedantic" severity, thus essentially
hiding it from 99.999% of Lintian users (yet allowing us to continue
to continue collect statistics and make it easier to re-introduce
later)
I also updated the tag description to say:
You should not make any changes to your package based on this
presence of this tag.
