Do you have a recompiled version of the package, we can use for testing
purposes?
If not possible, can you provide a detailed file listing of all
packages (debs, source tars etc) that includes the permission string
from tar. E.g. something like:

  tar vtf lintian_2.5.28.tar.xz
  dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile lintian_2.5.28_all.deb | tar vtf -
  ar p lintian_2.5.28_all.deb control.tar.gz | tar vztf -

Half of them are warnings from Perl that usually is a sign of a code
error (a la "missing" null guards in other languages).

Could you provide the full log, I got a feeling that several error
messages are missing that might help us understand what went wrong.
