Yes, this is bug #522441 in file.  It only triggers once in a blue moon,
but it's really annoying when it does.  I really wish someone would fix
it; I suspect what's needed is to move up the priority of the gzip
hueristic above some of the other things that file thinks the file might
be, since the magic number is not unambiguous.  (But gzip files are way
more common than, say, Sun disk labels or Minix file systems.)
