Package: lintian Version: 1.23.42 Severity: wishlist Hi lintian maintainers, According to the instructions shipped with the "doc-base" package, file /usr/share/doc/doc-base/doc-base.txt.gz , paragraph 2.3.2.1, the "Section" field in a doc-base file should use the Debian menu sections: > _Section_ > Section where the document belongs; this should follow the > sections outlined in chapter 3.5 of "Debian Menu Policy", which > can be found in the /usr/share/doc/menu/html > (file:///usr/share/doc/menu/html/ch3.html#s3.5) directory. > Required field. Since the allowed menu sections have recently changed (and lintian now thoughtfully checks for this), it stands to reason that maintainers should also be reminded to change the Section fields in their doc-base files, ideally with the transition being completed pre-Lenny. Therefore, would it be possible to have Lintian run the same check on doc-base file Section fields as it does on menu file section fields? I know that this would certainly help me out! X-Debbugs-CC'ed to the doc-base maintainer in case he wants to comment. Note, if it was *not* the intention to have doc-base follow the menu policy transition, please reassign this bug to doc-base and retitle to "doc-base: should explicitly list allowed values for Section field". As an aside, I have a further doc-base question: are all doc-base-using programs currently able to handle spaces within the newly defined set of section fields such as "Applications/File Management" ? best regards, -- Kevin B.
