Package: lintian
Version: 1.23.27
Severity: wishlist

Perhaps an INFO could be displayed to notify about over-precise use of version
number for certain packages.

SUGGESTION

- In case of development packages (Build-Depends), issue a INFO
for certain programs if the verion number is too detailled.
- The packages to check could include:

debhelper - only major version is needed
  dpatch - .. same ..
  ...

Sorry, but this is useless. We could only check this reasonably for
.0(.0) (and that's *never* a problem). There are good reason to depend
on certain debhelper versions (which introduced new helpers, for
example).
