Bug#365503: xfonts-encodings is not a font package
Package: lintian
Version: 1.23.18
Severity: normal
If a package (xprint-common in my case) Depends: xfonts-encodings, then
lintian returns the error
"package-depends-on-an-x-font-package depends: xfonts-encodings"
citing Policy 11.8.5 "if a binary package needs a given font then it must
Recommends: it, not Depends:".
But xfonts-encodings is not a font package (it's a font infrastructure
package), so I don't think 11.8.5 applies to it.
So if I understood it correctly, an exception needs to be added to the
lintian code for "package-depends-on-an-x-font-package" in order to not
trigger on xfonts-encodings.
Thanks,
Drew
