Bug#344928: lintian: warns instead of output error when postinst uses mknod
Package: lintian
Version: 1.23.14
Severity: normal
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I used mknod in my postinst script and that's lintian output:
W: fuse-utils: mknod-in-maintainer-script postinst:21
N:
N: Maintainer scripts should not create device files directly. They
N: should call makedev instead.
N:
N: Refer to Policy Manual, section 10.6 for details.
N:
In mentioned section there is:
If a package needs any special device files that are not included in
the base system, it must call `MAKEDEV' in the `postinst' script,
after notifying the user[1].
So using mknod is a violation of policy and output should be probably
raised to error or at least say 'must' instead of 'should'.
