Upcoming courses at Leeds | Fire & Safety Law | Fire Risk Assessment & Management



FIRE & SAFETY LAW  

Monday 12th December - Friday 16th December 2011

A number of places are still available on this week long course at Leeds next month.

Course Outline:

  • Legal framework of industrial safety law
  • Specific fire law and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order and associated guidelines
  • High hazard safety law
  • Manslaughter, Corporate Manslaughter and Negligence law in relation to safety and fire

The course is directed by Professor Gordon Andrews with confirmed guest speakers:

Ø  Mr Mel Grice (ex Deputy Chief Fire Officer for Devon) - A retired fire officer's and consultant's view of the operation of the RRO using case studies (Wednesday) 

Ø  Mr Steven Byles (Technical Director, Aurora Fireworks) - Explosives regulations and guidance (Thursday) 

The cost of this course is from £535 (10% discount for IFE & EI members) – deadline for applications, Friday 2nd December - further details.

FIRE RISK ASSESSMENT & MANAGEMENT (by e-learning over a ten week period)

Monday 9th January - Friday 16th March 2012

With this distance learning course you will gain knowledge of risk assessment concepts, techniques and the data required for an evaluation of fire risk in most buildings/facilities. 

Course Outline:

  • An introduction to risk management
  • Qualitative fire risk assessment
  • Semi-quantitative fire risk assessment (points scheme & matrix methods)
  • Quantitative fire risk assessment (probabilistic)
  • Full quantitative fire risk assessment
  • Frequency analysis
  • Consequence analysis
  • Risk-informed decision making

The course has been developed at the University of Leeds and is directed by Dr David Charters.

THE FIRE & EXPLOSION ENGINEERING MSc AWARD PROGRAMME
Timetable starts September each year 

This successful programme has offered advanced training in the field of Fire and Explosion Engineering since 1998.
Both the above courses are also ’15 credit’ modules on the Fire & Explosion MSc award programme - if you are interested in applying for this programme, successful full completion of either of these courses would contribute to considered ‘good standing’ (especially useful for those without a formal first degree).
