Still no answer to the question, but a couple of new references:

The Copyright Act 1988 doesn't mention the Bible, though it does
mention Peter Pan, in Schedule 6.

This message to a mailing list suggests that the legal basis for the
perpetual copyright of KJV is rather obscure and it might not even be
valid.
