Re: Debian Wheezy on Dell 7535

Hi Fred, thank you for replying

The command 'shutdown -hP now' still does not work when run as root. I think i will have to wait for Jessie Stable to be released and then try it. Maybe there is a bug in the Kernel 3.16.

Anyone here using the kernel 3.16 ?

Hi Gajadur,

The shutdown command someone previously suggested should have been (as root):
shutdown -hP now
The P option is for power off.  This command works on my desktop.

Best regards,
Fred

Hi Michael,

I don't think it is a hardware issue because when I boot to Windows and shutdown from there, the system shutdowns properly.
The problem occurs only on Debian.

In fact I had the 3.2 kernel before and I had no shutdown issue , however I had to install the new kernel 3.16 because I was having other compatibility issues with the 3.2 kernel.

It is after that I have installed the new kernel that the problem occured.

    Dwijesh,

What happens when you shut down from a boot DVD (life CD) Linux ?
Like GRML oder some installer disk.

    www.grml.org <http://www.grml.org>

If that works then try to install the same kernel.

Anyway, does it work from Windows (does the laptop still have that
?), and can you do the Dell hardware check ?

Should be onboard, otherwise try support, like
    http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/inspiron-15-7537/diagnose

(this was the model closest to your 7535 that i could find though)

Maybe it's worth to look into BIOS and switch off some IRQs or
    ports that you never need...

If even Windows does not shut down then it's probably a warranty case.
