I had a similar issue with a probook 6540b, I upgraded to the latest bios release & the issue vanished! You also have to disable your lan power save under bios settings.. Its an ACPI related issue

Just for the record, this has now been resolved somehow; I think
the turning point was the 2.6.38 kernel migrating to testing.
