Re: Acer TravelMate 3040

If not sure,if all the hardware works with debian
maybe best to do first a dual-boot installation.
To leave a windows installation there, too.
--------------------------------------------------
When debian works it is definitely more stable
than any windows.
---------------------------------------------------

If you'll try with the later kernels , such as
2.6.28 there is some more hardware than
with the regular kernel. for example digital tv usb boxes.

I'm now running 2.6.28-1-686 (Debian 2.6.28-2~snapshot.12850) kernel
with my hp laptop, trying to get a  digi tv box working.

I didn't have any problems with the regular kernel until I tried
an anysee E30 digitv usb. Still that digi tv  is not working, but I just realized
that it is a hw problem, that anysee doesn't work with usb 1 ports,
which my machine has got. I will install pcmcia usb 2 ports
and see if it will start working then.

I have not tried Debian, but just for kicks, I tried the live Ubuntu CD (Intrepid Ibex)

on my new Acer Aspire 5735Z, and it worked just fine,

detecting all of my hardware normally.

I am planning to install it to dual boot with the virus from Redmond.
