hello,

did this work before the lenny install ?

I'm no exper on this, since it is working at my laptop, but it could be
 a hardware failure.
It recognize the close but not the open of the lid.

Yep.. this works OK on Ubuntu, Mint even Gentoo.. and it worked perfect when Lenny was in testing.. weird I know.
