Ah, that is useful. But only if you are installing from scratch.

More often, one is merely upgrading a kernel, or worse, as in my case, 
replacing grub after it was removed by an errant aptitude kernel
install.  So I suppose we should be asking for the same capabilities
that the debian installer has to be added to update-grub.
