If you upgraded the kernel (I think from what you say you haven't)
you might need a newer firmware version.

If you are seeing this error at boo time, but can unload and load the module
fine by hand afterwards, the firmware might be in /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware instead of /lib/firmware (and therefore not visible when the init system
tries to fire up the network).
