Trouble with eth0 on HP zv6130us/Rtl-8139

Title: Trouble with eth0 on HP zv6130us/Rtl-8139

Hi all,

I've just bought an HP zv6130us (AMD64 laptop) and I can't get through the Sarge base system configuration -- I get the following screen:

This system does not seem to be currently connected to the internet.
Even if you plan...

Meanwhile, on a second virtual console, I see in dmesg:

8139too Fast Ethernet driver 0.9.27
...
eth0:  Identified 8139 chip type 'RTL-8100B/8139D'
...and then later...
8139cp: 10/100 PCI Ethernet driver v1.2 (Mar 22, 2004)
...

8139too and 8139cp are apparently two different drivers for the 8139 chip; both appear to be loading...
ifconfig reports:

UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:2145 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
...

Does anyone have any idea whether there's a known problem with this config, or whether the above indicates such? I'm not sure what else to do next to debug this...

Thanks!
