Suspend on IBM ThinkPad R50e

Hello!

Is there any way to use suspend functionality on IBM ThinkPad R50e
beside suspend2[1]. I really do not want to recompile the kernel on my
own, although that is not so hard to do.

Thanks in advance for pointers, notes, ...
