Thank you SOOOOO much! The above is EXACTLY what I needed. I fixed it
up with only the above information. Am running that 2.4.27 kernel
"as we speak". Will try to file the howto URL for future reference.
This Ubuntu on Compaq Armada 7400 continues to give me some trouble:
Using the Ubuntu supplied 2.6.8 kernel, USB does not work. Using the
2.4.27 kernel, PCMCIA does not work. I don't find the PCMCIA problem
in dmesg, but it was something like "module pcmcia-core not found". I
am networked with a USB rtl8150 (wired), which comes up fine and
automatically with 2.4.27, but not 2.6.8. OTOH, a orinoco wireless
card comes up fine and automatically with 2.6.8, but not 2.4.27. These
must be problems with the Ubuntu init scripts; I have a Libranet 2.8
(2.4.21?) Armada 7400 that gives me no trouble with either USB or
PCMCIA. Where to look?
Incidentally, someone recently gave me the fix for getting ALSA working
on the Armada 7400. If anyone needs it, it is:
snd-es18xx irq=5 port=0x220 dma1=1 dma2=0 mpu_port=0x330 isapnp=0
in /etc/modules. That is for 2.6.8; didn't work with 2.4.27.
