Hmm... i don't really know about your notebook but maybe, if you upgrade
to 2.6.9, it'd be worth a shot. I had a similiar problem with my ibm
thinkpad R40 on acpi. It went to sleep but never did wakeup again. Till
2.6.9 where they suddenly had a /proc/acpi/wakeup file where the kernel
knows where to wakeup. I dunno, but maybe it's the same on apm. Or
even... if you got acpi, you might want to switch to that.

Also... i've made the expierience that no suspend to ram does make any
sense on longer off times. I can just recommend swsusp2 from
swsusp.sourceforge.net. It's great and just sends your whole ram to your
swap space without destroying existing swap data. So you probably want
to look at it. Though you still have to patch your kernel for it :/
