Multiple Monitors with an NVidia NV17

Hi;
I have a compaq laptop with an Nvidia Geforce Go 420 (32 mb ram);
and have it working perfectly on my WXGA screen; but I want to use it
with a second monitor, either mirroring what the first does or with
Xinerama extensions...
I tried plugging my projector in and hitting Fn+F4; but that did no good
- - my primary display just went funny, and needed an X server restart..
any ideas?
