It works for me with a custom kernel with only the vesa frame buffer. Sounds
like you are loading in someway an incompatible frame buffer (intentionally or
not). Happens for me with the mach64 frame buffer which doesn't work on my
laptop, but recognizes the screen, which leaves it blank or noisy.
