Kernel/PCMCIA confict

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I've just upgraded my kernel to the one in the Debian package
kernel-image-2.4.26-1-686 and tried to include the pcmcia modules in
pcmcia-modules-2.4.26-1-686. When I boot up, I get the following message:

Linux PCMCIA Card Services 3.2.5
  kernel build: 2.4.26-1-686 unknown
  option: [pci] [cardbus] [apm] [pnp]

cardmgr tells me there is no pcmcia driver in /proc/devices.

I've read the HOWTO: it tells me to make sure the versions match and it seems
to me they do. Can anyone see what I am doing wrong or tell me how to
troubleshoot this?
