After pppd connection has started, I get:
Kernel IP routing table
Destination     Gateway         Genmask         Flags Metric Ref    Use
Iface
192.168.100.101 0.0.0.0         255.255.255.255 UH    0      0        0 ppp0
0.0.0.0         127.0.0.1       0.0.0.0         UG    0      0        0 lo

then I do:

route add default gw 192.168.100.101
and I get
Kernel IP routing table
Destination     Gateway         Genmask         Flags Metric Ref    Use
Iface
192.168.100.101 0.0.0.0         255.255.255.255 UH    0      0        0 ppp0
0.0.0.0         192.168.100.101 0.0.0.0         UG    0      0        0 ppp0
0.0.0.0         127.0.0.1       0.0.0.0         UG    0      0        0 lo

and everything works.

Any ideas?

PS:Daniel, thanks for the tip, I'll try the replacedefaultroute as well
