error compiling kernel

when I try to store my kernel configuration on a file, the
console where I called make "xconfig" writes

"ERROR - Atempting to write value for unconfigured value
(CONFIG_PARPORT_PC_PCMCIA)."

The option is at "Parallel port support - Support for PCMCIA
management for PC-style ports".
I have done a look there and I am unable to check any option
(besides options appears black, not grey); "Yes" appears as
grey, "module" and "no" appear as black.

any hint is wellcome, thanks
