On my 560X (2640-70U) I use xmixer (from mctools-lite) to mess with the
volume.  My /etc/modules.conf says:

: alias char-major-14 cs4232
: options cs4232 io=0x530 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=5

(although the options are just black magic to me).  The sound quality
through the built-in speaker is, well, rather lousy.
