Have a look at whereami. It is also capable (after some configuration) of 
changing your mounts and printcaps after you've changed your network 
environment. Together with ifplugd I guess you got it 100% covered. 

There are alternatives of whereami by the way. You can probably google for 
them, I've read of some in the lists here, but I just forgot.
