Re: Audio on Inspiron 5100

I suspect that you are going to have to solve your kernel compiling problem in
order to be able to solve your sound problem.

If I am reading your /var/log/dmesg correctly CONFIG_SOUND_ICH has not been
compiled into your kernel. Which is what I had to do on my Inspiron 2650 to get
its Intel 810 working.

Also your /var/log/dmesg seems to indicate that you are running a 2.4.18 kernel
it might be a good (general housekeeping) idea to move to a more recent kernel
like 2.4.22. If you are feeling adventurous you could try a 2.6 kernel I've been
running 2.6.0-test9 for a couple of weeks now without any discernible problems.

Hope this helps

James
