TuxMobil News 10/2003

Hello,

this month's TuxMobil News digest has again good news for Linux PDA, mobile
phone and laptop users. Here is an extract of the monthly digest, but note
there are much more noteworthy issues, so do not miss to check the whole
digest[1].

|=| Linuxant has released a Linux driver for the Intel(TM) PRO/Wireless 2100
chipset[2]. So finally all three parts of the Centrino technology are supported.
The driver also supports WLAN chipsets made by Atheros, Broadcom, Intersil and
Realtek. TuxMobil has tested it on an ASUS M2400N
laptop and it worked out-of-the-box[3]. Though unfortunately the
driver is not Open Source. Intel has also announced a driver[4], but whether
this will be released as Open Source or not is still unclear. Nevertheless Centrino(TM)
laptops are already very popular in the Linux community. For almost all
Centrino based laptops installation reports[5] are available.

|=| Werner Schulte has published an OPIE development Live CD[6], which provides
a complete toolchain to generate applications for Linux PDAs. Also two
usefull documents came up. One explains Cross-Compiling For SHARP Zaurus[7] in
general and the other how to cross compile Zaurus apps using Apple
    developer tools on Mac OS[8].

|=| As usual there are rumours about new Linux PDAs, this month about the
SHARP SL-6000[9]. But they are not officially confirmed by the manufacturer
    itself yet.
