Yes, X will run on this chipset w/o 3D using either the driver 'nv' or 'vesa' 
(not sure which one). It should also work nicely in 2D with the nvidia driver 
(the older one that doesn't know about the M9 chipset). I've attached my 
working XF86Config in the hopes that it will help you.
