You're sure it's not a 24/8 unit, i.e. read 24 write 8?  That (or
similar) is what I got on my acer (tm632), though it's almost a year
now.  I guess those tiny units they put i laptops are just not stable
enought to burn at as high speed as stationary units (but I'm realy only
guessing).
