Acer Aspire's 24x CDRW only writing 8x

Hi laptopers,

I use Debian testing happily on an Acer Aspire 1300. It comes with
a "QSI CD-RW/DVD-ROM SBW-241" capable of 24x writing.

I can burn CDs (via ide-scsi emulation), but can't burn faster than 8x.
I use cdrecord -speed=24, but the actual speed is always around 8.

Any ideas about why is this?
Any options needed for the ide-scsi modile (beside ignore=hdc)?

It's a 2.5.66 kernel
