esd does not start with gnome

Hi all,

I have a toshiba with a cs4281 soundcard. The modules is loaded
correctly and if I start esd manually I can play oggs etc via xmms- BUT
esd does not come up automatically when I start gnome, although I have
configured gnome to do so - am I missing something?
