> I second (or third) the call for the Thinkpad.  I have used the T20, A22, and R31 models, and all three work just fine with Debian.  The R31 required XFree 4.2, which I don't think is available in Woody.  

if you add:
#faster XFree86 development
deb http://people.debian.org/~blade/woody/i386/ ./

to /etc/apt/sources.list, that'll give you 4.2 woody debs. Which work 
perfectly (for me) YMMV, etc.
