Re: Xfree86 4.2 Server Problem
Hello Richard,
If I understood you right, there may be involved other's
Distros 'update' features...?
I'm not very skilled in X-related things, and I know just a little about
Debian Linux... anyway.
1) What's in your X-log. On Woody, it might be stored in
/var/log/XFree86.0.log
It's a good thing to check at first ;-)
2) Default path on my machine is /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.
Do you have a file there ?
Do you have a backup of your old ( working ) Config ?
Try to use it, then.
X-Setup tools backup generally, I hope.
3) I wonder about the sections in your Config....seem to be rather
minimalistic configured...because of some good autodetection ?
To illustrate, I give you 2 xamples from my Config:
Section "Monitor" ends with two lines like
HorizSync 30-95
VertRefresh 50-160
Section "Screen" looks like
Identifier "Default Screen"
Device "Generic Video Card"
Monitor "Generic Monitor"
DefaultDepth 16
SubSection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x400"
EndSubSection
EndSection
It's just wild guessed.
But, HTH anyway...
