I am trying to recall such a configuration question, but I do not recall it 
ever being mentioned via the install script.  I have installed it here and it 
was as simple as 'dpkg -i opera_xxSomeVersion.deb'.  I have also recently 
installed it on a test box, again never seeing any mention of 'automatically 
start up with.."  

Perhaps you have something like a kde desktop that is doing this?  If that is 
the case, it would have nothing at all to do with opera.  Can you provide 
clearer details, perhaps we can figure it out.
