Re: VAIO

Hi,
I have VAIO PCG-F801.

Has an AMD K6-II proc 533 MHz proc.
Trident Cyberblade/i7d video
Maestro ES1983S Maestro 3i.
12.1" TFT 800x600 screen (it's a bit small)
floppy is optional
CDROM 24x

I'm using stable Debian 2.2r2 with apt-get updates/upgrades.
I do have problems with apm using 2.4 kernels, sometimes with 2.2
kernels too. I cannot suspend it because it halts.
Works with Xfree 3.3.6 but I have problems with Xfree 4.0 which I
compiled myself (could be the reason, but the same compilation works
on a BEST laptop with an ATI RAGE video chip.) However there're some
issues with the Cyberblade video chip in Xfree 4.0.

There's an 1394 FireWire connection (i.Link) need some application in
Linux...

I have 64 MB RAM from I can dedicate 2/4/8 MB to the video memory. Of
course there'll be less for the system.

Audio works with maestro3 moduleor one can use alsa drivers.
(2.2.19 or 2.4.x kernel has maestro3).

We are looking at purchasing a few laptops for the office, and are
considering Sony VAIO's. Does anyone have any experience with them
running debian? Potential problems? Suggestions on models/addons?

	Thanks.
