You would probably just need a different printcap entry, not a different
file.

Alot of people name these things like lp1, lp2 and so on but you can
give them names like home, work, bill, etc.

You would specify this name to lpr ( for instance, when you print from
Netscape it lets you specify a different printer name to lpr. Now, if
only it read the printcap file and offered you a choice .. :)

That should work, but you probably need to be on kernel 2.4 to use USB.

I think you need to configure X to use the touchpad, USB or both..

Alot of the built-in modems in laptops are in fact simple DSP chips that
emulate a modem ( sometimes called "winmodems" ). 

It's possible that it's a real modem, if not you may be able to get software
to use it under Linux ( although they aren't good modems and I don't recommend 
it ).
