I think you should be able to apply the patches: make sure you have a copy
of either the .deb or the directory itself, apply the patches, and see if
you get any rejections. If you don't get any rejected patches, you're set.
[Note that the patches don't even always work on stock kernel tarballs: I
sometimes have to get a fresh tarball from ftp.kernel.org because the
patch is b0rked and won't apply - it seems to happen from time to time]
