Sound problem

Ok, sound was working fine (using ALSA on my Tecra 8100) and then I
did an apt-get update/upgrade and now it's not. No, more fool I, I
don't know what changed.

Attempts to use the sound card now add these messages to /var/log/syslog:

Jul 20 16:16:12 hermes modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-1
Jul 20 16:16:12 hermes modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-1
Jul 20 16:16:12 hermes modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-2
Jul 20 16:16:12 hermes modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-2
Jul 20 16:16:12 hermes modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-3
Jul 20 16:16:12 hermes modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-3

lsmod reports:

My /etc/modules.conf file says:

alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-card-ymfpci
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0

Which is what it used to say.

And /proc/asound/sndstat reports:

Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v0.6.0pre1 emulation code)

Er, what config? Any hints, anyone?

                                        Be seeing you,
                                          norm
