To get my Thinkpad 600 with it's 10G IDE drive recognised properly I had to
run a 2.3.x kernel.  Then when I knew the correct numbers I added the
following to my lilo.conf:
append="hda=XXXX,YYY,ZZ"
Numbers removed to avoid people typing them in to their own systems and
stuffing things.
