Hi Peter, Probably the best reference material for getting Linux running on laptops is at : http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop/ I've personally had experience loading Linux on a Toshiba Portege' 3015 and Dell Lattitude laptop, and both worked well... There are also a number of vendors now selling Linux pre-installed on laptops.
