For my Thinkpad 600 I had to add the following to lilo.conf:
append="mem=XXXk"

Where "XXX" is the amount shown by the BIOS on boot up.

I have a vague recollection that one of the 2.3.x kernels I briefly tried
recognised more memory, but I only seriously use 2.2.x kernels at the
moment...
