Hi Alex, Tony, this is what I finally had to do (or at least what I did) : installed from the safe rescue disk, then it crashed with PCMCIA cards. So i rebooted under a mini-linux to copy a kernel I had previously compiled on an other machine. And it works ! Rather complicated and long yet ... Thanks for your help Thomas
