Here's pt_BR debconf template translation :

Description: xterm requires devpts support in the kernel.
xterm requires Unix98 pty (pseudo-terminal) device support in the kernel,
and this interface is not available on your system. xterm will not work
until it is.

To resolve this problem, install a kernel with Unix98 pty interface. The
Linux kernel uses the CONFIG_DEVPTS_FS configuration option for this
purpose. You can confirm that devpts support is active by running the
"mount" command.

kernel, e esta interface não está disponível em seu sistema. O xterm não
funcionará até que isto esteja disponível.

Para resolver este problema, instale um kernel com interface Unix98 pty.
O kernel Linux usa a opção de configuração CONFIG_DEVPTS_FS para este

O arquivo /etc/X11/Xresources/xterm existe em seu sistema; as
personalizações que o pacote Debian xterm costumava prover neste arquivo
foram agora colocadas em /etc/X11/app-defaults/XTerm e
/etc/X11/app=defaults/XTerm-color ao invés disso. O arquivo de recurso X
antigo contém configurações que podem não mais serem aproriadas e podem
causar problemas com certos mapeamentos de teclas (como home e end) no
xterm.

Se você não personalizou este arquivo, é recomendado que você permita
que ele seja removido.
