Please take into account that I do not speak Polish, so please bear with me. First question -------------- In: #: ../bin/apt-listbugs:627 msgid "****** Exiting with an error in order to stop the installation. ******" msgstr "****** Kończenie z błędem, w celu zatrzymania instalacji. ******" the translation was changed into: msgstr "****** Zatrzymano instalację z powodu błedu. ******" Why did you change the translation? Is the new translation more accurate? It almost looks like it could be a translation of "Stopped the installation because of an error", while the original English message "Exiting with an error in order to stop the installation" has a different meaning (the program is producing an error on exit so that the installation is aborted). Second question --------------- In: #: ../lib/aptlistbugs/logic.rb:50 msgid " [options] <command> [arguments]" msgstr " [opcje] <polecenie> [argumenty]" the translation was changed into: msgstr " [opcje] <command> [argumenty]" Why this change? Why did you use the English word "command", rather than the Polish word "polecenie", which seems to be used in many other strings as the translation of the English "command"? I see that you did similar changes in many strings, where you restored the original English words, dropping the Polish translations. For instance, in: #: ../lib/aptlistbugs/logic.rb:55 msgid "" " -s <severities> : Filter bugs by severities you want to see\n" " (or \"all\" for all)\n" " [%s].\n" msgstr "" " -s <stopień-ważn> : Wybór wyświetlanych stopni ważności\n" " (lub [all] aby pokazać wszystkie)\n" " [%s].\n" the translation was changed into: msgstr "" " -s <severities> : Wybór wyświetlanych stopni ważności\n" " (lub [all] aby pokazać wszystkie)\n" " [%s].\n" and similarly was done with other online help strings after that. Why? In the online help, words within "<" and ">" are placeholders that the user will replace with the actual values he/she wants. For instance "<severities>" will not be typed literally by the user, but will be replaced by a suitable list of severities (or the word "all"). Hence, I would say that a user who prefers to see program output in Polish, would like to see the online help with the placeholders explained in Polish. Do you agree? Third question -------------- In: #: ../lib/aptlistbugs/logic.rb:59 msgid "" " -D : Show downgraded packages, too.\n" msgstr "" " -D : Pokazuje również pakiety cofane do starszej wersji.\n" the translation was changed into: msgstr "" " -D : Również wyświetla pakiety przywracane do starszej wersji.\n" Why? Is the new translation more accurate? What's the usual way to translate the English "downgrade" into Polish, in the software jargon context? Fourth question --------------- In: #: ../lib/aptlistbugs/logic.rb:70 msgid "" " -a : Assume the default reply for all questions.\n" msgstr "" " -a : Przyjmuj wybranie \"tak\" we wszystkich pytaniach.\n" the translation looks identical to the translation of "Assume yes for all questions". Is it a mistake? How should the translation be fixed? Fifth question -------------- In: #: ../lib/aptlistbugs/logic.rb:581 ../lib/aptlistbugs/logic.rb:660 msgid "" "The following %{npkgs} package will be pinned:\n" " %{plist}\n" "Are you sure?" msgid_plural "" "The following %{npkgs} packages will be pinned:\n" " %{plist}\n" "Are you sure?" msgstr[0] "" "Następujący pakiet zostanie przypięty lub wstrzymany:\n" " %{plist}\n" "Czy napewno?" msgstr[1] "" "Następujące %{npkgs} pakiety zostaną przypięte lub wstrzymane:\n" " %{plist}\n" "Na pewno?" msgstr[2] "" "Następujących %{npkgs} pakietów zostanie przypiętych lub wstrzymanych:\n" " %{plist}\n" "Na pewno?" Why does the translation of "Are you sure?" change with the plural form? The plural form refers to the number of packages here, not to the number of users the message is directed to... Moreover, the translation looks outdated: "lub wstrzymany" used to be a translation of "or on hold", which is no longer present in the English message... Please review this translation and let me know. Smilar issues seem to affect the following translation: #: ../lib/aptlistbugs/logic.rb:619 msgid "" "The following %{nbugs} bug will be dodged:\n" " %{blist}\n" "Are you sure?" msgid_plural "" "The following %{nbugs} bugs will be dodged:\n" " %{blist}\n" "Are you sure?" msgstr[0] "" "Następujący błąd zostanie pominięty:\n" " %{blist}\n" "Czy napewno?" msgstr[1] "" "Następujące %{nbugs} pakiety zostaną przypięte lub wstrzymane:\n" " %{blist}\n" "Na pewno?" msgstr[2] "" "Następujących %{nbugs} pakietów zostanie przypiętych lub wstrzymanych:\n" " %{blist}\n" "Na pewno?" Sixth question -------------- #: ../lib/aptlistbugs/logic.rb:715 msgid "" " p <pkg>.. - pin packages <pkg>\n" " (restart APT session to enable).\n" msgstr "" " p <pkg>.. - pakiety przypięć <pkg>\n" " (zrestartuj sesję APT, aby włączyć).\n" #: ../lib/aptlistbugs/logic.rb:716 msgid "" " p - pin all the above packages\n" " (restart APT session to enable).\n" msgstr "" " p - przypina wszystkie w/w pakiety (do włączenia konieczny restart " "sesji APT-a).\n" #: ../lib/aptlistbugs/logic.rb:788 msgid "%{packgl} will be pinned. Restart APT session to enable" msgstr "%{packgl} zostanie przypięty. Uruchom ponownie sesję APT, aby włączyć" Why is "restart APT session to enable" translated differently in the second string and in the third string? Seventh question ---------------- #: ../lib/aptlistbugs/logic.rb:847 msgid "%{packg}(%{nbugs} bug)" msgid_plural "%{packg}(%{nbugs} bugs)" msgstr[0] "%{packg}(%{nbugs} bug)" msgstr[1] "%{packg}(%{nbugs} błędy)" msgstr[2] "%{packg}(%{nbugs} błędów)" Why was "bug" left untranslated in the singular form? It used to be translated as "błąd" in the previous translation... Why did you change this translation? Conclusion ---------- Could you please review your translation file in light of the above questions/doubts and send a revised version of the translation file to me? I would be very grateful, if you could do so. Thank you so much for your time and patience! -- http://www.inventati.org/frx/ There's not a second to spare!
