The problem here is escaping the "." character. I actually fixed that earlier in SVN but recent commits reintroduced the problem. I use this opportunity to mention that commits should take care to resync with the SVN files: we have some automated scripts that run on packages/po and refresh files there....so when you commit updates, there are risks of conflicts. Of course, automated scripts *never* touch translations. I sometimes do, when it's needed to fix such errors (they break the propagation of translations to individual packages files). In any case, before committing a file to SVN, I highly recommend checking its syntax with "msgfmt -o /dev/null --statistics". You'll catch basic errors this way....
