In brief:
a) Author dropped by accident the templates and later restored them
b) Christian notes, reports the bug, improves the templates (==
   changes them!)
c) Christian ask for updates (from you as well) and compiles a new
   patch for the package
d) For some technial reason, Christian takes the two reported versions
for the translation into the package, labeling them de.po and de2.po
e) Christian will remove one of them, ensuring the other is 100%
complete and called de.po (i.e. no work for us ;-))
f) Christian does an NMU, and the story almost ends

because

g) sometime in the future the wvdail maintainer updates his templates
and you'll need to update the translations as done so in the past

I hope this clarifies a little.

Greetings

          Helge
